The latest strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran have pushed the Middle East into one of its most dangerous moments in decades. With reports that Ali Khamenei was killed, tensions have escalated rapidly, and retaliation has already followed. What began as shadow confrontation between Israel and Iran — now directly involving the United States — risks expanding into a wider regional war.
This is not a distant crisis. Disruptions near the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab-el-Mandeb threaten global oil supplies, shipping lanes, and trade routes. When tankers hesitate and flights are cancelled, fuel prices rise, goods are delayed, and inflation spreads across continents. In today’s interconnected world, instability in the Gulf affects food prices, transportation costs, and supply chains everywhere — including Somaliland.
For Somaliland, this is a serious test of maturity and strategic discipline. Our location near Bab-el-Mandeb gives us importance, but also responsibility. Neutrality is not weakness; it is wisdom. Our national interest lies in stability, economic preparedness, and the continued pursuit of international recognition — not in being drawn into great-power rivalries.
The government must secure essential imports such as fuel, food, and medicine, while strengthening security without provocation. Clear communication is vital to prevent panic. Citizens must reject misinformation, avoid spreading rumors, and remain united. Social media speculation can cause internal instability far faster than external events.
Somaliland’s strength has always been peace, unity, and responsible governance in a turbulent region. At this critical moment, we must remain calm but vigilant, neutral but firm, and focused on our long-term aspirations. Global storms will pass. Nations that remain disciplined and united during them emerge stronger.
