The Somaliland Passport is increasingly gaining recognition for work, study, temporary residency and diplomatic travel. Recently, the UAE accepted it for a temporary visits for two years plus work permits, visiting visas as well as student visas, following the recent diplomatic engagement, not only with President Abdirahmam Mohamed Abdilahi’s historic Presidential level warm reception, but his full participation in the annual Worlds Government Conference where over 60 presidents from around the world held their conference in Dubai, UAE. 
This is good news for Somalilanders in their quest for global recognition. International relations experts agree that this is indeed a tacit recognition of Somaliland’s independence and sovereignty which paves the way for these countries to recognize Somaliland soon.
So far several countries and many international organizations have established representative offices in the capital, Hargeisa. Djibouti, Ethiopia, UAE, UK, EU/EEA countries, Kenya, Turkey and Taiwan are among the countries that have already accepted the Somaliland Passport as an official document for travel, much like the passports of countries like UK, U S A, Turkey and UAE.
