Your August 14, 2025 letter to President Donald J. Trump is more than a political act — it is a testament to truth, justice, and historical fairness.
For 34 years, Somaliland has waited for the world to acknowledge what we have always known: that our sovereignty is neither new nor negotiable. Your clear articulation of our history — from independence and recognition in 1960, to the voluntary union, to the lawful reassertion of our independence in 1991 — affirms to the world that Somaliland is not a breakaway region, but a restored nation.
Your recognition of Somaliland’s contributions to democracy, counterterrorism, and maritime security reflects a deep understanding of the sacrifices our people have made to remain a stable, reliable partner to the United States and the international community. Your words offer hope that the long chapter of diplomatic limbo is finally closing.
To you, and to every member of the U.S. Congress who has stood by Somaliland in our struggle for justice, we say: thank you for believing in us, for standing with us, and for using your voice to champion our cause. History will remember your courage.
