A New Era for Somaliland-U.S. Relations

The clock is ticking in the Horn of Africa — and hesitation could cost the United States a historic advantage.
Now the moment has arrived. After Israel moved forward with recognition, Somaliland has openly offered Washington military basing access in Berbera and cooperation on rare and strategic minerals critical for future technology and defense.
Meanwhile, rivals are moving fast. China is expanding its military and economic footprint, while Türkiye deepens influence across Somalia and the Red Sea corridor.
Passing The Somaliland Recognition Bill, recently initiated in Congress, and placing it on the desk of Donald Trump would secure maritime security, diversify U.S. military positioning, and strengthen democratic allies at a decisive geopolitical moment.
This is not just diplomacy — it is strategy.
Washington must act now, or watch a golden opportunity slip into the hands of rival competitors.
